The Masterfile Series - by
Antrabata Records
This
is a series of boots issued by Antrabata records. Each release is a complete
show within itself. The series of discs really have nothing to do with
each other other than that. In fact the numbering isn't even complete.
So I'm not calling this a collection but I'll still list what I have here.
I've only been able to find word on the following releases:
1.The Slowhand Masterfile
- Part 2: The Second Album Sessions
2.The Slowhand Masterfile
- Part 3B: Rainbow Theatre 13.1.73 Late Show
3.The Slowhand Masterfile

The
Slowhand Masterfile - Part 3B: Rainbow Theatre, London, ENG. 1/13/73 (2
CDRs)
This
recording contains a complete recording of the late show at the Rainbow
Theater from Eric's historic "comeback" at the Rainbow Theater in London
on 1/13/73. Only four of the 15 tracks from this set made it to the official
release. recording of Clapton's. These discs are of superb stereo soundboard
recordings and rival the official release for sound quality.

soundboard recording includes the Band, Billy Preston, Ron Wood and Van
Morrison. Some great stuff not heard very often from Clapton on these discs.
Also good amount of Van on disc one. Sound is good but lots of background
hiss

The
Slowhand Masterfile - Part 6: Hammersmith Odeon, London, ENG. 4/27/77 (2
CDRs)
This
complete soundboard, recorded on 27 April 1997, rivals some official releases
with lots of great material like "Alberta", "Hello Old Friend", "Sign Language",
and of course "Layla". It has come to light that a handful of these CDs
have clicking noises that sound like skips. The great majority seem to
be without this defect. Note that "Tell The Truth", "Knockin' On Heaven's
Door", and "Stormy Monday" made their way onto Crossroads 2.

* Stranger Blues is repeated in its entirety at the start of CD3. The sound quality has been disputed with ratings going as low as sb1 or sb2. I have also received a rating as high as sb6 from someone who collects large numbers of Clapton imports. This makes me wonder if there might not be more than one issue of this volume. The CDs have been recorded at a low volume. I find that when the volume is augmented sufficiently, there is more hiss than normal for a soundboard of this era. (R.B.) |
